This week was full of lessons. The fact that the coming New Moon in Aries and the season of Aries are occurring in tandem, has seemed to amplify the effects. This sprouting energy has also been peppered with some awesome news, and I’ve curated a few of my favorite gems to share with you!
Sandra Cisneros has been writing for over 50 years. She is, by far, one of my favorite writers. I had the chance to see her in Chicago with my very good friend Lesley. It was 2009 or 2010, I believe, and listening to her soothing voice and intentional words was like reading the poetry she penned. It was a night I will always hold close. She recently updated her website, which features a minimal, and bold black and white aesthetic. I love the Letters, a sort of intimate and personal blog written especially for her readers.
Chani Nicholas is a true gem. Her unwavering commitment to making astrology an accessible and practical tool in the pursuit of justice is unparalleled. I recently read an interview with Chani in Bitch Media’s new Meet Your Mystics series, which is the bomb.com. She also pens weekly horoscopes for the people, and this week’s batch is, as always, life-giving.
Sesame Street was one my all time favorite television shows growing up. Each episode was a mini lesson in justice and the importance of diversity. Recently, Sesame Street introduced a new character on the block, a shy Muppet with autism named Julia. The character likes to paint and pick flowers, and plays a central role in Sesame’s “See Amazing in All Children,” which provides children with autism and their families someone to identify with, and those that don’t a window into their world.
Ta-Nehisi Coates is penning a revamp of the Black Panther, a comic series published by Marvel. The Black Panther (T’Challa), genius and mythical ruler of Wakanda, first appeared in The Fantastic Four #52 in July 1966. Since then T’Challa and the world of Wakanda have continued to shape the imaginations of POC comic-lovers alike, motivating a deep sense of pride and possibility.
Hope your week ahead is blessed!
